Materials that will be on hand: yarn, fabric, ribbon,  and embroidery thread.

Equipment we will have at the church:  a sewing machine (we could use a 2nd one), thread, needles, a sewing box with misc. items, a hole punch,  glue gun, quick-dry adhesive,  heavy weight pellon (for stiffening the name tag), a couple of pairs of scissors, name badge magnets for securing your nametag safely to your clothes, and a rotary cutter and mat.

We could use the following additional equipment:  a 2nd sewing machine, a small hand loom,  a table top ironing board and iron.

Mar. 3, 2023
Location:  Buena Vista Congregational United Church of Christ 217 Crossman Ave, Buena Vista, CO 81211
Program:  Revisiting an Ancient Craft: History and Techniques of Feltmaking
Presenter: Deb Tewell

From adhesive dots to marker tips, from sound insulation to works of art, felt is one of the world’s oldest and most underappreciated textiles. Many of us remember felt from childhood, yet the US has no tradition of feltmaking like Scandinavian and Asian countries do. A renewed interest in natural fibers has brought felting to the forefront in the last few decades.

This presentation will trace this craft’s ancient beginnings to its modern twists and innovations. Focusing on wearables and everyday household uses, we will look at some techniques that have recently taken felting to a higher level of sophistication.

Location:  TBD
Program:  All About Buttons
We plan to meet with the Monarch Quilter's Guild for a combined program. Kathy Buono, along with other member(s) of the Colorado State Button Society, will present a program that covers the history of buttons, what collectors are looking for, the different materials that buttons are made from, how to tell the age of a button, etc. Bring any buttons that you would like to know more about. If you have certain things you would like to know about buttons contact Kathy at buonokathy@gmail.com and that can be included in the presentation.

The Colorado State Button Society's Annual show will be held 15-16 April in Denver.  Admission is free and you will not be disappointed. Many dealers will be selling their buttons, competition trays will be displayed along with winning trays, and a competition category of 'No Harm" button use is always interesting. Let Kathy know if you are interested in attending.
